Usa Archery National Ranking Calculation

Reviewed by Calculator Editorial Team

USA Archery National Rankings are determined based on an athlete's performance in official competitions. This guide explains how to calculate these rankings and understand their significance.

How to Calculate USA Archery National Rankings

The USA Archery National Ranking system evaluates an archer's performance using a combination of factors including competition results, consistency, and recent performance. The exact calculation involves several steps:

  1. Collect all competition scores from the current season
  2. Calculate the average score per round
  3. Adjust for consistency using the standard deviation of scores
  4. Weight recent performances more heavily
  5. Compare against other archers in the same division

Our calculator simplifies this process by using the official USA Archery ranking formula.

The Ranking Formula

The official USA Archery ranking formula is:

Ranking Score = (Average Score × 0.6) + (Consistency Factor × 0.3) + (Recent Performance × 0.1)

Where:

  • Average Score = Sum of all scores / Number of competitions
  • Consistency Factor = 100 - (Standard Deviation of scores)
  • Recent Performance = Most recent competition score × 1.2

This formula balances an archer's overall performance with their consistency and recent form.

Example Calculation

Let's calculate the ranking for an archer with these scores: 620, 630, 610, 640, 625 (all in a 6-arrow round).

  1. Average Score = (620 + 630 + 610 + 640 + 625) / 5 = 624.2
  2. Standard Deviation ≈ 8.5
  3. Consistency Factor = 100 - 8.5 = 91.5
  4. Recent Performance = 625 × 1.2 = 750
  5. Ranking Score = (624.2 × 0.6) + (91.5 × 0.3) + (750 × 0.1) = 374.52 + 27.45 + 75 = 476.97

This archer would have a ranking score of 477.

Interpreting Your Ranking

Your ranking score is compared to all other archers in your division to determine your national ranking. Higher scores indicate better performance relative to other archers.

Note: Rankings are recalculated after each competition season. Your position may change frequently as new results are added.

To improve your ranking:

  • Consistently score above your average
  • Maintain low score variation
  • Perform well in recent competitions
