  • Total break time
  • Net hours worked (total hours minus breaks)
  • Overtime if applicable

Formula Used

The calculator uses the following formulas:

Total Hours Worked = End Time - Start Time Net Hours Worked = Total Hours Worked - (Break Duration / 60) Overtime = Net Hours Worked - 8 (if Net Hours Worked > 8)

Where:

  • Start Time and End Time are in 24-hour format
  • Break Duration is in minutes
  • 8 hours is the standard workday threshold

Worked Example

Let's calculate a timesheet for an employee who worked from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM with a 30-minute break.

  1. Start Time: 9:00 AM
  2. End Time: 5:30 PM
  3. Break Duration: 30 minutes

Calculations:

Total Hours Worked = 5:30 PM - 9:00 AM = 8.5 hours Net Hours Worked = 8.5 hours - (30/60) = 8 hours Overtime = 8 hours - 8 hours = 0 hours

In this example, the employee worked exactly 8 hours with no overtime.
