How the Salary Calculator Works

The salary calculator uses standard US tax formulas to estimate your take-home pay. Here's how it works:

Federal Income Tax Calculation

The calculator uses the progressive federal tax brackets for 2023:

  • 10% on income up to $11,000
  • 12% on income from $11,001 to $44,725
  • 22% on income from $44,726 to $95,375
  • 24% on income from $95,376 to $182,100
  • 32% on income from $182,101 to $231,250
  • 35% on income from $231,251 to $578,125
  • 37% on income over $578,125

Social Security and Medicare

Social Security tax is 6.2% and Medicare tax is 1.45% on the first $160,200 of earnings.

State Taxes

The calculator uses average state tax rates. You can adjust these based on your specific state.

After calculating all deductions, the calculator shows your estimated take-home pay, which is your gross salary minus all taxes and deductions.
