Where:
- Income Tax is calculated based on Ontario's progressive tax rates
- CPP is calculated at 5.95% of your earnings (up to the maximum contributory earnings)
- EI is calculated at 1.66% of your earnings (up to the maximum insurable earnings)
- Other deductions include union dues, health benefits, etc.
This formula provides a realistic estimate of your take-home pay after all deductions.
Worked Example
Let's calculate the net salary for a single person earning $60,000 gross annually:
- Gross Salary: $60,000
- Income Tax: $10,200 (based on Ontario's progressive tax rates)
- CPP: $3,570
- EI: $1,000
- Other Deductions: $1,200
Net Salary = $60,000 - ($10,200 + $3,570 + $1,000 + $1,200) = $41,130
This means the person would take home approximately $41,130 annually, or about $3,428 per month.
