How to Use This Calculator

To calculate power consumption, you'll need to know the power rating of your device and how long it's used. The calculator uses these inputs to determine total energy usage.

Key Terms

  • Power (Watts): The rate at which energy is used (W)
  • Time (Hours): Duration the device is in use
  • Energy (Watt-hours): Total energy consumed (Wh)

Enter the power rating of your device and the daily usage time. The calculator will show you the daily, weekly, and monthly energy consumption.

Formula Explained

The basic formula for power consumption is:

Energy (Wh) = Power (W) × Time (h)

For extended periods, you can calculate:

Daily Energy = Power × Daily Usage Time

Weekly Energy = Daily Energy × 7

Monthly Energy = Daily Energy × 30

This formula assumes continuous use. For intermittent use, adjust the time accordingly.

Worked Example

Let's calculate the energy consumption of a 100W light bulb used for 5 hours daily.

Daily Energy = 100W × 5h = 500Wh

Weekly Energy = 500Wh × 7 = 3,500Wh

Monthly Energy = 500Wh × 30 = 15,000Wh

This means the light bulb consumes 500 watt-hours each day, 3,500 watt-hours each week, and 15,000 watt-hours each month.

FAQ

What units should I use for power and time?

Use watts (W) for power and hours (h) for time. The calculator will handle the conversion to watt-hours.

How accurate is this calculator?

The calculator provides estimates. For precise billing, consult your utility provider's actual measurements.

Can I use this for industrial equipment?

Yes, but industrial equipment often has more complex power factors. The basic formula may not account for all variables.
