Formula Explained

The calculator uses the following formula to estimate power consumption:

Total Power Consumption (Watts) = (CPU Watts + GPU Watts + Other Components Watts) × (1 + (100 - PSU Efficiency)/100)

Daily Consumption (kWh) = Total Power Consumption × Usage Hours ÷ 1000

Monthly Consumption (kWh) = Daily Consumption × 30.44

Annual Consumption (kWh) = Monthly Consumption × 12

Estimated Cost = Annual Consumption × Electricity Rate

The formula accounts for power supply inefficiency by adding a percentage of the total component wattage based on your PSU's efficiency rating.

Worked Examples

Example 1: Gaming PC

CPU: 120W, GPU: 300W, Other Components: 150W, PSU Efficiency: 85%, Usage: 6 hours/day

Total Power: (120 + 300 + 150) × 1.15 = 660W

Daily: 660 × 6 ÷ 1000 = 3.96 kWh

Monthly: 3.96 × 30.44 ≈ 121.3 kWh

Annual: 121.3 × 12 ≈ 1,456 kWh

Example 2: Office PC

CPU: 65W, GPU: 0W, Other Components: 80W, PSU Efficiency: 90%, Usage: 8 hours/day

Total Power: (65 + 0 + 80) × 1.10 = 151.5W

Daily: 151.5 × 8 ÷ 1000 = 1.21 kWh

Monthly: 1.21 × 30.44 ≈ 36.9 kWh

Annual: 36.9 × 12 ≈ 443 kWh
