Taxable Income

Taxable income is calculated as:

Worked Example

Let's calculate the taxes for a gross salary of $50,000 in Ontario for 2017.

Step 1: Calculate CPP and EI

For 2017, the CPP contribution rate is 5.95% and the EI premium rate is 1.66%.

CPP = $50,000 × 0.0595 = $2,975

EI = $50,000 × 0.0166 = $830

Total Deductions = $2,975 + $830 = $3,805

Step 2: Calculate Taxable Income

Step 3: Calculate Federal Tax
