How NASCAR Payouts Work
NASCAR race payouts are structured to reward both the winner and other top finishers. The exact distribution varies by race and series, but typically follows these principles:
- The winner receives the largest portion of the prize money.
- Each subsequent position receives a progressively smaller amount.
- Some races include bonus payouts for specific achievements.
Formula used:
Payout for position n = Total Prize Money × (1 - (n-1) × 0.1) / (Number of Positions × (Number of Positions + 1) / 2)
This formula ensures that the sum of all payouts equals the total prize money while maintaining a fair distribution.
Worked Example
Let's calculate payouts for a race with $1,000,000 total prize money and 10 positions:
- Enter $1,000,000 as the total prize money.
- Select 10 as the number of positions.
- Click "Calculate".
The calculator will show that the winner receives approximately $250,000, the second place finisher gets $200,000, and so on, with each subsequent position receiving $50,000 less than the previous.
Example: For 10 positions, the payouts would be $250,000, $200,000, $150,000, $100,000, $75,000, $50,000, $25,000, $10,000, $5,000, and $1,000 respectively.
