Formula Used

The calculator uses standard growth chart formulas based on the World Health Organization (WHO) growth standards. The formulas differ slightly by gender and age group.

For boys aged 0-36 months: Weight (kg) = 0.15 × (age in months) + 3.2 Height (cm) = 0.7 × (age in months) + 48.5 For girls aged 0-36 months: Weight (kg) = 0.14 × (age in months) + 2.8 Height (cm) = 0.7 × (age in months) + 47.5

The percentile is calculated based on the standard deviation from the mean growth curve.

Interpreting Results

The calculator provides three key pieces of information:

  • Ideal Weight: The average weight for babies of the same age and gender
  • Ideal Height: The average height for babies of the same age and gender
  • Percentile: Where your baby's growth compares to other babies of the same age and gender

Percentile ranges:

  • Below 3rd percentile: Below average growth
  • 3rd-97th percentile: Average growth
  • Above 97th percentile: Above average growth

Remember that growth patterns vary naturally. Consult with your pediatrician if you have concerns about your baby's growth.

Worked Examples

Example 1: 6-Month-Old Boy

Using the formulas:

Weight = 0.15 × 6 + 3.2 = 3.2 + 3.2 = 6.4 kg Height = 0.7 × 6 + 48.5 = 4.2 + 48.5 = 52.7 cm

This 6-month-old boy would be at the 50th percentile for both weight and height.

Example 2: 12-Month-Old Girl

Using the formulas:

Weight = 0.14 × 12 + 2.8 = 1.68 + 2.8 = 4.48 kg Height = 0.7 × 12 + 47.5 = 8.4 + 47.5 = 55.9 cm

This 12-month-old girl would be at the 50th percentile for both weight and height.
