Formula Explained
The calculation is straightforward. The formula used is:
Adjusted Work Hours = Total Work Hours - Lunch Break Duration
For example, if you work 8 hours a day and have a 1-hour lunch break, your adjusted work hours would be 7 hours.
Note: This calculation assumes your lunch break is taken during your working hours. If your lunch break is unpaid or outside your working hours, the formula would differ.
Worked Examples
Example 1: Standard Workday
If you work 8 hours a day with a 1-hour lunch break:
- Total Work Hours: 8 hours
- Lunch Break: 1 hour
- Adjusted Work Hours: 8 - 1 = 7 hours
This means you actually work 7 hours after accounting for your lunch break.
Example 2: Extended Workday
If you work 10 hours a day with a 30-minute lunch break:
- Total Work Hours: 10 hours
- Lunch Break: 0.5 hours
- Adjusted Work Hours: 10 - 0.5 = 9.5 hours
This shows you work 9.5 hours after accounting for your lunch break.
