Fuel Consumption Calculator Excel Download

Reviewed by Calculator Editorial Team

This fuel consumption calculator helps you estimate vehicle fuel efficiency, track mileage, and analyze fuel costs. The downloadable Excel template includes all the formulas and visualizations shown on this page.

How to Use This Calculator

To calculate fuel consumption:

  1. Enter the total distance traveled in your vehicle
  2. Enter the total fuel purchased for that trip
  3. Select the fuel unit (liters or gallons)
  4. Select the distance unit (kilometers or miles)
  5. Click "Calculate" to see your fuel efficiency

The calculator will display your fuel consumption in liters per 100 kilometers (L/100km) or miles per gallon (MPG) depending on your unit selections.

Formula Used

The fuel consumption is calculated using the following formulas:

For metric units (L/100km): Fuel Consumption = (Fuel Purchased ÷ Distance Traveled) × 100 For imperial units (MPG): Fuel Consumption = Distance Traveled ÷ Fuel Purchased

Where:

  • Fuel Purchased is the total amount of fuel you bought for the trip
  • Distance Traveled is the total distance covered during the trip

Worked Example

Let's calculate the fuel consumption for a trip where you traveled 500 kilometers and purchased 35 liters of fuel.

  1. Enter 500 in the Distance Traveled field
  2. Enter 35 in the Fuel Purchased field
  3. Select "Liters" for Fuel Unit
  4. Select "Kilometers" for Distance Unit
  5. Click "Calculate"

The calculator will show your fuel consumption as 7.00 L/100km.

This means your vehicle uses 7 liters of fuel for every 100 kilometers traveled.
