Formula Used

The formula used to calculate the required final exam score is:

• Desired Final Grade = Your target grade percentage
• Total Weight = Current Weight + Final Exam Weight (should equal 100%)
• Current Grade = Your current grade percentage
• Current Weight = Percentage of your grade that comes from current marks
• Final Exam Weight = Percentage of your grade that comes from the final exam

Worked Example

Let's say you have a current grade of 75% that counts for 70% of your final grade, and your final exam counts for 30% of your final grade. You want to achieve an 85% final grade.

Using the formula:

This means you would need to score 108.33% on your final exam to achieve an 85% final grade. Since this is impossible, you would need to either:

• Lower your desired final grade
• Improve your current grade
• Have a lower final exam weight

Interpreting Your Results

The calculator will give you a required final exam score. Here's how to interpret it:

• If the score is between 0% and 100%, it's achievable.
• If the score is less than 0%, your desired grade is already achievable with your current grade.
• If the score is more than 100%, your desired grade is impossible with your current grade and exam weight.
