Fantasy Football Draft Pick Calculator by Position

Reviewed by Calculator Editorial Team

In fantasy football, your draft position determines your opportunities and challenges. This calculator helps you evaluate your draft position's value by considering your position, average draft position (ADP), tier, and league settings.

Introduction

Your draft position in fantasy football is crucial because it affects your ability to acquire top talent. Players drafted earlier generally have more opportunities to build their teams, while those drafted later may need to work harder to compensate for their disadvantage.

This calculator evaluates your draft position's value by considering:

  • Your current draft position
  • Your position's average draft position (ADP)
  • Your position's tier (1-5)
  • League settings (snake or linear draft, number of teams)

The result provides a relative value score that helps you understand whether you're in a favorable or unfavorable draft position for your position.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your current draft position
  2. Select your position from the dropdown
  3. Select your position's tier (1-5)
  4. Choose your league settings (snake or linear draft, number of teams)
  5. Click "Calculate" to see your draft position value

Note: The calculator uses standard fantasy football position values. Your actual value may vary based on your league's scoring system and other factors.

Formula

The draft position value is calculated using the following formula:

Draft Position Value = (ADP - Your Position) × Tier Multiplier × Draft Type Adjustment

Where:

  • ADP = Average Draft Position for your position
  • Your Position = Your current draft position
  • Tier Multiplier = 1.5 for Tier 1, 1.2 for Tier 2, 1.0 for Tier 3, 0.8 for Tier 4, 0.6 for Tier 5
  • Draft Type Adjustment = 1.1 for snake draft, 1.0 for linear draft

The result is a relative value score. Positive values indicate a favorable draft position, while negative values indicate an unfavorable position.

Position Values by Tier

Here are the standard position values by tier:

Position Tier 1 Value Tier 2 Value Tier 3 Value Tier 4 Value Tier 5 Value
QB 1.5 1.2 1.0 0.8 0.6
RB 1.4 1.1 0.9 0.7 0.5
WR 1.3 1.0 0.8 0.6 0.4
TE 1.2 0.9 0.7 0.5 0.3
K 1.1 0.8 0.6 0.4 0.2
DEF 1.0 0.7 0.5 0.3 0.1

Worked Example

Let's calculate the draft position value for a player in a 12-team league with a snake draft:

  • Current draft position: 48
  • Position: WR (ADP = 72)
  • Tier: 2
  • Draft type: Snake

Using the formula:

Draft Position Value = (72 - 48) × 1.1 × 1.1 = 24 × 1.21 = 28.86

This result of 28.86 indicates a very favorable draft position for a WR in this league.

FAQ

What does a positive draft position value mean?

A positive value indicates that you're drafting earlier than the average for your position, giving you a better chance to acquire top talent.

What does a negative draft position value mean?

A negative value suggests you're drafting later than average for your position, which may require more strategic drafting to compensate.

How does tier affect the calculation?

Higher tiers (1-2) have higher multipliers because they represent more valuable positions. Lower tiers (4-5) have lower multipliers.

Does the draft type (snake vs. linear) affect the result?

Yes, snake drafts have a slight advantage (1.1 multiplier) because they allow for more strategic pick trading.
