Dnd 5e Health Calculator Increased Constitution

Reviewed by Calculator Editorial Team

This calculator helps Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition players determine their character's maximum hit points when their Constitution score increases. It accounts for both the Constitution modifier and any racial bonuses that affect hit points.

How to Use This Calculator

To calculate your character's new maximum hit points after increasing their Constitution score:

  1. Enter your character's current Constitution score (before the increase)
  2. Enter your character's new Constitution score (after the increase)
  3. Enter your character's current maximum hit points
  4. Select your character's race (if it provides a racial bonus to hit points)
  5. Click "Calculate" to see your new maximum hit points

The calculator will show you the difference between your old and new hit points, as well as a chart showing the progression of your hit points over multiple levels.

Formula Used

The formula for calculating maximum hit points in D&D 5e is:

Maximum Hit Points = (Hit Dice × Level) + (Constitution Modifier × Level) + (Racial Bonus × Level)

When your Constitution increases, your Constitution modifier changes, which affects your maximum hit points. The calculator applies this change to your current hit points.

For example, if your Constitution modifier increases from +1 to +2, your maximum hit points will increase by the number of levels you've already taken.

Worked Example

Let's say you're a level 5 human fighter with:

  • Current Constitution score: 14 (+2 modifier)
  • New Constitution score: 16 (+3 modifier)
  • Current maximum hit points: 35

Your Constitution modifier increased from +2 to +3. Since you're level 5, your hit points increase by 5 × (3 - 2) = 5. Your new maximum hit points would be 35 + 5 = 40.

Note: This example assumes you have no racial bonuses to hit points. If you do, the increase would be larger.
