How the Discovery Health Method Works

The Discovery Health method calculates your pregnancy due date by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period. This method is based on the average length of a full-term pregnancy.

Example Calculation

Let's say your last menstrual period started on January 1, 2023. Using the Discovery Health method:

1. Add 280 days to January 1, 2023.
2. 280 days after January 1, 2023 is October 28, 2023.

Therefore, your estimated due date would be October 28, 2023. If today is June 1, 2023, you would be 20 weeks pregnant (182 days / 7 days per week = 26 weeks, minus 6 weeks for the average length of a menstrual cycle).

Limitations of the Method

While the Discovery Health method provides a useful estimate, it has some limitations:
