How to Use This Calculator
Using the D&D Health Calculator is simple:
- Select your character's class from the dropdown menu.
- Enter your character's level.
- Enter your character's Constitution modifier.
- Click "Calculate" to see your hit points and hit dice.
The calculator will display your total hit points, hit dice, and average hit points per level. You can also view a chart showing your hit points progression over levels.
Formula Used
The calculator uses the following formulas to determine hit points:
Hit Points at Level 1: Class Hit Die + Constitution Modifier
Hit Points at Higher Levels: (Class Hit Die ÷ 2 + 1) + Constitution Modifier
Total Hit Points: Sum of all hit points gained from leveling up
For example, a Fighter with a Constitution modifier of +2 would have:
- 10 hit points at level 1 (1d10 + 2)
- 6 hit points at level 2 (1d10 ÷ 2 + 1 + 2)
- And so on for each level
Worked Example
Let's calculate the hit points for a level 5 Fighter with a Constitution modifier of +3:
| Level | Hit Die | Constitution Modifier | Hit Points Gained | Total Hit Points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1d10 | +3 | 10 + 3 = 13 | 13 |
| 2 | 1d10 ÷ 2 + 1 | +3 | 6 + 3 = 9 | 22 |
| 3 | 1d10 ÷ 2 + 1 | +3 | 6 + 3 = 9 | 31 |
| 4 | 1d10 ÷ 2 + 1 | +3 | 6 + 3 = 9 | 40 |
| 5 | 1d10 ÷ 2 + 1 | +3 | 6 + 3 = 9 | 49 |
This Fighter would have a total of 49 hit points at level 5.
