Baby Due Date and Conception Calculator

Reviewed by Calculator Editorial Team

Pregnancy is a fascinating journey, and understanding your due date and conception date can help you track your pregnancy progress. This calculator helps you determine these important dates based on your last menstrual period (LMP) or ultrasound date.

How to Use This Calculator

To calculate your baby's due date and conception date, follow these simple steps:

  1. Enter your last menstrual period (LMP) date or ultrasound date in the calculator.
  2. Select whether you're using LMP or ultrasound date.
  3. Click "Calculate" to see your results.

The calculator uses standard pregnancy calculations where a full-term pregnancy is considered 40 weeks (280 days) from conception. For LMP-based calculations, we add 280 days to your LMP date to estimate your due date.

How Pregnancy Weeks Work

Pregnancy is typically divided into three trimesters, each lasting about 13 weeks:

  • First trimester (Weeks 1-13): The foundation of your baby is formed, including major organs and body structures.
  • Second trimester (Weeks 14-27): Your baby grows rapidly, gaining weight and developing more body systems.
  • Third trimester (Weeks 28-40): Your baby prepares for birth, gaining weight and practicing breathing movements.

Note: Weeks are counted from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP) or from the date of a confirmed pregnancy (ultrasound date).

Calculating Conception Date

The conception date is typically estimated by subtracting 14 days from your LMP date. This is based on the average length of a menstrual cycle (28 days) minus the typical ovulation day (around day 14).

Formula: Conception Date = LMP Date - 14 days

For example, if your LMP was on January 1, 2023, your estimated conception date would be December 18, 2022.

Understanding Due Date

The due date is calculated by adding 280 days (40 weeks) to your LMP date or 266 days (38 weeks) to your ultrasound date. This gives you an estimated delivery date.

Formula for LMP-based due date: Due Date = LMP Date + 280 days

Formula for ultrasound-based due date: Due Date = Ultrasound Date + 266 days

Keep in mind that due dates are estimates and actual delivery dates can vary by several days or weeks.

Worked Example

Let's walk through an example calculation:

  1. Suppose your LMP was on March 15, 2023.
  2. Estimated conception date: March 15, 2023 - 14 days = February 28, 2023.
  3. Estimated due date: March 15, 2023 + 280 days = December 12, 2023.

This means you would be in your first trimester on March 15, 2023, and your baby would be due on December 12, 2023.
