Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition (D&D 5e) players often need to know how much their coins weigh. This calculator helps you determine the total weight of your D&D 5e money in pounds, kilograms, and ounces.

The calculator will display the total weight of your coins in the selected unit, along with a breakdown of the weight contributed by each type of coin.

Formula Used

The weight of D&D 5e coins is calculated using the following formula:

Total Weight = (Copper × 0.02) + (Silver × 0.1) + (Electrum × 0.5) + (Gold × 0.2) + (Platinum × 0.3)

Where:

  • Copper = Number of copper pieces
  • Silver = Number of silver pieces
  • Electrum = Number of electrum pieces
  • Gold = Number of gold pieces
  • Platinum = Number of platinum pieces

The weights are in ounces. To convert to pounds, divide by 16. To convert to kilograms, multiply by 0.0283495.

This formula is based on the official D&D 5e rules for coin weights.

Worked Example

Let's calculate the weight of a typical adventurer's purse:

  • 100 copper pieces
  • 50 silver pieces
  • 20 gold pieces

Using the formula:

Total Weight = (100 × 0.02) + (50 × 0.1) + (20 × 0.2)

= 2 + 5 + 4

= 11 ounces

Converted to pounds: 11 ÷ 16 = 0.6875 pounds

Converted to kilograms: 11 × 0.0283495 ≈ 0.312 kg

  • Electrum: 0.5 oz (1/2 lb)
  • Gold: 0.2 oz (1/5 lb)
